Outdoor time…for sanity sake!

by The Empowered Educator 3 Comments

Well, it has been a tough week….i had the flu, the the girls have had some sort of tummy bug that has seen them with diarreah for over a week now and now his patient self and the teen seem to be coming down with a cold! Welcome to summer!

I have to admit that i am not loving my cloth nappies this week…when you have twins with diarreah it becomes a lot of work and washing! If i never hose out another pooey nappy it might be too soon!I gave in a few days and reverted to disposables but quickly realised that most of their pants are made to fit their cloth bots so they kept falling down!I think we are over the worst of it…you feel so helpless when they are sick.

This morning the girls were so grumpy so i packed the rug and basket and we went up to the top paddock for some fresh air…it is absolutely amazing what outside does for their dispositions. It was a lovely morning and i really enjoyed seeing them wander about talking to the chookies and exploring nature. We have a lot of birds and Tara loves to just watch them fly overhead.

A rare smile for the camera…note the scarred nose due to a fall and subsequent trip to emergency dept few weeks ago!
Just hanging on the fence and watching the magpies having breakfast and below watching the magpie walk past…was fascinated!
This area has become our makeshift backyard until we can get back to the backyard and make it child safe. Daddy has been busy putting up some makeshift wire and pallet fencing to keep the girls from rolling down hills onto bushrocks and hopefully keep the wallabies out. It will also become a safe area for the chooks to roam hopefully.
The fencing isn't pretty but it is made of recycled materials and doing the job temporarily. Hopefully it will be finished by end of this weekend. The girls really do love the open space to wander and explore.
Ruby exploring the fenceline….looking foor escape routes no doubt!
Gate made from pallets at pathway leading down to house
Wire and pallet fencing behind garden and vegie garden
As i was playing with the girls this morning i realised that their current two fav outdoor items were in fact well loved freebies picked up from the local freecycle club (This is a club where you can give items away that may otherwise be taken to the dump or you no longer want). We had given quite a few items away to others before these came our way so i like to think it was good karma at work. Have you done a clothing or toy swap with friends or perhaps been given something free yourself that you now cherish? The girls certainly appreciate these finds!
We have had to tape up a fair few cracks and holes due to weathering but still plenty of life to this slide yet!
ME first!
We had to draw a face back on but Ruby loves her ‘rocking worm'!

I also added some more palm fronds to the chook's tractor for shade. They work like a charm and the shadows change naturally throughout the day as well as helping them feel a little safer around the kookburra's and territorial magpies!

TODAY'S HAPPY MOMENT

I really needed one today and coming outside was the perfect remedy…..the girls started the day grumpy and teary but made a remarkable recovery outside. They enjoyed their picnic while ‘talking' to the chooks.

And we all loved watching the lorikeets outside the nest in this tree. They were too quick for me to catch in a photo but they are a cute couple and have built a nest in the fork of this tree..complete with a twig they have pushed out to the side to use as a perch…amazing!

I hope you ll had a good morning too…..thanks for stopping by!

I always find that outdoors is great with kids unless it is just too hot and you are not near water. Hope you are all feeling much better now.
