Do you ever….

by The Empowered Educator 14 Comments

Do you ever have one of those days as a parent that just leave you emotionally and physically exhausted and you're not really sure why? Let's look at today so far….

Wake up with a migraine and that time of the month visiting …check

Walk up to let the chooks out and discover they have knocked over their water bucket…again and something has been into their food as i only filled it yesterday! Walk back down hill and refill everything, trip up stone steps on way back…….check

As walking back down through the vegie garden notice that wallabies have yet again eaten beans and strawberries leaving just stumps of both, got to love self sufficiency some days……..check

Walk inside really hoping the morning gets better only to discover the kettle has boiled dry due to cut off switch apparently no longer working……check

Toddler twosome up for the day and begin toddler tantrums and fighting almost immediately….check…yep going to be one of those days

Clean up a mega poop that has escaped the cloth nappy and decorated the lounge beautifully…….check

Come back from rinsing nappy to discover i forgot to put the ‘no spill' valves on the water cups this morning and toddler twosome are having a ball slipping around in puddles on the wooden floor….check

Decide to go outside for change of scenery after ‘excitement' of the morning to do some painting……forget the chooks seem to like painting too and happily walk through dropped paint ending up with it over swingset and slide as toddler twosome run around with paint hands while i am distracted by chooks running around everywhere with paint claws…….check

Toddler twosome fighting for sole attention all day, one taking the genius step of holding onto my shorts in case i move of my own violation without her permission in a direction she doesn't want me to go….check

Lunch lovingly prepared (ok, slapped together while mummy wondering if there is chocolate in the house) dropped all over floor with not much eaten, so much effort for such little success……check

Weight watchers planned lunch of tuna and salad abandoned in favour of eating dropped leftovers so no wastage, hmmm……check

3 loads of washing and nappies hung out in glorious hot sunshine, 10 minutes later a rain shower comes through soaking the lot, mummy too tired to care honestly, perhaps it will dry tomorrow….check

Long awaited naptime disrupted by neighbour deciding now would be perfect time to get the ride on mower and other loud machinery started resulting in short nap time which really, really made mummy ‘disgruntled'…….check

The afternoon looms long as mummy counts down till bedtime and a glass of ‘steady the nerves' wine……surely someone will be in tomorrow to look after the kids and do the housework right? It is the weekend after all!

Have a good weekend everyone……i really do love my kids…..honestly…..just one of those days, tell me you know what i am talking about (please!).

Oh Jode I’m sorry that you had such a yuk day, those types of days really suck. Don’t feel alone some days things just don’t go right and little ones just seem to pick up on what going on and it just snowballs. I hope that tomorrow brings a better day, with no rain, happy little girls, a yummy lunch and no more unexpected visitors in your garden. Take care. xx

Sorry to hear about your bad day!

But I have to tell you before I read your post I really enjoyed your beautiful pictures. Just looking at your photos first I had no idea you were having such a bad day. You see where I live we’ve had our first significant snow of the season and I’m not at all a winter person…so seeing the beautiful flowers, green trees, sunlight, lush garden and birds made me a little jealous…I won’t see these things for months!

But after reading your post I do understand how frustrating these days are…on thing leads to another! I’ve had plenty of these days! I hope your weekend is much better then this day!

I was thinking I was having a bad day until I read your post. You have had a more challenging day than I have.

Oh, Bless you Jode! Yes, we certainly all have “those days.” You know what I noticed reading through your post, though? First, the absolutely beautiful pictures you chose to accompany your words, and second, how you somehow managed to keep your sense of humor through an incredibly trying day! I’m sure you didn’t feel it at the time, but it sounds to me like you handled it with lots of grace ๐Ÿ™‚ Happy New Day (there’s always a new day).

OH! Wow, this is my first time visiting your blog. I clicked the link on NOBH. I completely understand these kinds of days, in fact reading about yours was so refreshing to me. I’m not the only one! I love your language style, too… though I’m not sure what a ‘chook’ is. Keep up the blogging. You have beautiful daughters.

Thanks so much for dropping by Jennifer…i like to ‘keep it real’ in my blog so i talk about the good and bad! A chook is just Australian slang for a chicken really!!
