A Week of Easy Easter Family Fun!

by The Empowered Educator 6 Comments

We have had such a busy week of Easter craft and fun that I thought I would share some with you rather than our usual Weekly Wanderings!

I don't like to start Easter craft too early…I think it becomes overwhelming for toddlers. So the activities we did are also very simple and a little bit old school and thrifty too! But the toddler twosome and even Miss Teen had so much fun that I really don't think they worried about the lack of ‘fancy craft' to much!

Simple is best with toddlers when it comes to keeping them engaged and happy…that's what I believe anyway. They have plenty of time later in life to have to ‘perform' or ‘make things the right way'!!

As well as our Felt Easter Egg Stick & Sequence activity we also painted and decorated some simple Styrofoam eggs on sticks!

I'm sure you have seen this activity all over Pinterest but the blog that really had me inspired to try this one with the girls was At Home with Ali , her lovely girls made such pretty ones I just had to try it with the toddler twosome! So simple and yet so much fun!

The girls really explored this in their own way and had so much fun creating their unique egg!

Lots of glitter but even the table looked pretty by the end!!

For some reason it led to a funny face competition with big Sis!

Some were painted with lovely colours and then rolled in the glittery stars, some where coated in glue and others were just painted with wonderful patterns!

I just used some of the craft sticks we use in so many activities…they aren't sharp but pressed into the foam easily!

Pretty proud of her efforts obviously!

Lots of lovely glittery Easter joy that was shared as gifts to friends and family!

While we were painting I handed the girls a few egg cartons and recycled tinfoil trays (so lucky to have Daddy bring these gems home for us!) to decorate…

Miss Teen did her own special version!

We later turned them into Easter baskets with the addition of some pink ribbon and I added a few little chickens and some shredded paper.

The toddler twosome absolutely loved these and carted them around all day…they have been looking after their chicks for a week now!

Who needs fancy Easter baskets? Recycled products make them a little bit more fun I think!
Earlier in the week on a very hot day we hid inside in the air conditioning and decorated a few bunny ears. I'm yet to meet a toddler who doesn't love this activity even though it seems so simple to us adults!

A little paint mixed with some glue, a few ear shapes cut from a cereal box and some cotton balls made for some cute fluffy ears!

Any activity with glue and cotton balls is quite challenging for Ruby with her sensory processing difficulties as the wool tends to stick to her fingers and she gets agitated when she can't get it off. But I like to keep exposing her to these sort of challenges so she has a better chance of working through them. I kept a wet cloth close by that she could wipe her hands with when she needed to and although she didn't stay with the activity as long as Tara she still decorated both ears and stuck with it!

The I simply stapled the dry ears to a headband of card cut to size and added a little of the pink ribbon…we were going to decorate the headbands but the girls decided they couldn't wait to wear them!

They looked so cute sitting in the sun with their bunny ears on looking after their chicks!

Another simple but challenging activity for Ruby was sticking some Crushed and Coloured Eggshells  onto foam cutouts of eggs (which I still had in the drawers from last Easter!)

The eggshells tend to stick to her hands and they also have a sharp and yet smooth texture at the same time so lots for her to process.

She loved making her eggs ‘spotty'! Another simple activity but still lots of fun for toddlers to explore and challenge their fine motor skills!
It's been a fun week of Easter fun and the best part was there was really very little effort on my part and yet I received so many smiles in return.

The most beautiful thing I heard this week was from Ruby…”I'm having fun again Mum”

My work is done!

If you celebrate Easter I do hope you have had a lovely time with family….and perhaps shared an Easter egg hunt or two!

Thanks for sharing our special week!

Awesome sauce! Love it! So I edited the text part of your book (including my chicken scratch/pen and ink) and I am very happy with how it’s turning out! Now I have to do my edits in MSWord, which will take me a week to get to and finish, then I’ll email you a .doc rough draft.
