Make Your Own Wrapping Paper – Fun Ideas for Children

by The Empowered Educator Leave a Comment

When it comes to making your own wrapping paper there's nothing more special than using regular paintings that the children have already made. Add some ribbon or other personal touches and they stand out as unique as well as festive and are always a hit with family members.

I've put together a collection of quick yet creative ideas from around the web that you can do with the children before Christmas arrives.

Fun Ideas to Create Your Own Wrapping Paper for Presents

I love this environmentally friendly option from Mother Natured where they used newspaper instead of 'new' paper. A great way to help children get excited about recycling!

Use these quick, easy & playful ideas to make your own wrapping paper. Children will love sharing their creativity with family members!
  • Painting with Bubbles - see how to set it up HERE
  • 'Squirt' Painting is always a fun process art activity and makes great gift wrap! The idea below is from Mini Mad Things

Stamped Gift Wrap

There's no need to go out and buy fancy Christmas stamps for these ideas when you can use these simple materials from around the house instead.

  • Cookie Cutters are so versatile - use them for Christmas baking, Christmas play dough and of course Christmas stamping! This idea from the Nurture Store.
  • Potato stamps are a fun fine motor way to add some festive prints to your gift wrap - use your cookie cutters to cut them out. This idea and image from Gardenista
  • Felt Stamping - a hot glue gun and some felt pieces (sponges would also work) are all you need! See the full instructions HERE.

DIY Gift Bags

Having the children make gift bags is a nice way to send home the Christmas gifts that they have made. These ideas are inexpensive and look like a lot of fun to make.

  • Child painted reusable bags - this idea was shared by our Facebook Group member Fiona.
  • Turn empty cereal boxes into gift bags - what a great way to upcycle and a very cheap idea! Get the instructions HERE.
  •  Another inexpensive but very cute gift bag idea is this Rudolph bag using generic brown paper bags. Aren't they cute! See the instructions HERE.
