Lamb, leftovers, laughter and tears….

by The Empowered Educator 2 Comments

Well, the last week has certainly had its ups and downs but I'm going to focus on the happy moments from the last few days!

We had a relaxed Australia Day….did hope that my eldest would be back in the fold to help celebrate but unfortunately that wasn't to be…there was a lot of rain here still but luckily we aren't in the flood zone so just enjoyed some family time indoors (well, there were moments of enjoyment but this continual rain is really making those moments harder to come by with a bored toddler twosome…definitely have to work a little harder as a parent to make it all happen!!!)

The girls loved their Australia Day hats which came free with the Sunday paper (one was from last year but of course with twins they BOTH had to have one! They were about 4 sizes too big though….

We also enjoyed a lamb roast…which is a bit of a treat as lamb has become so expensive here now (why is that…lamb chops etc used to make a budget meal, now i never buy chops as so little meat for such a high price!) With garlic and rosemary picked fresh from the garden it really was yummy….sorry, no ‘cooked' photos….we were starving by the time we got there!

The weekend was an opportunity to use up some leftovers and after making a lamb curry one night with rice i then added some extra lentils and vegies and we had a lamb and lentil curry pie the next, i wasn't wasting a morsel of that expensive meat!…..pastry decorations by Miss Teen……

As some readers are aware…it was an emotional experience getting Miss Teen back home after a visit to her father's for half the school holidays….i'm not going to dwell on it though…am trying to focus on looking forward and not letting this situation occur again!

I have read quite a few blogs over the past week from teary mothers sending their little ones off to school…i would love to tell you it gets easier but unfortunately i still seem to well up at every milestone achieved! I was a mess at the end of last year when i realised she had graduated from Junior school and i was pretty emotional sending her off for her first day of senior school today….had to take a few pics in the new ‘senior' uniform…….

Whether it is seeing the toddler twosome reach another milestone…or Miss Teen….they are equally special and emotional…the role of a Mother truly is unique!

Now i am off to fold yet another load of washing….and wash up, and cook tea and get a little ironing done…..hmmmm…unique i said didn't i?

Hope you all had a lovely weekend!

Oh, and what a great looking roast – I hope you thoroughly enjoyed it. You certainly stretched it out!

Lovely looking pies, Jode. Miss Teen has a talent for crust design!
