The Week That Was……

by The Empowered Educator 9 Comments

Although I didn’t manage many posts this week, we did manage to be busy every day and still fit in some fun under wonderful blue skies and warm sunshine!

There are too many things I could write to describe this week and we would perhaps end up with a novel so i think it might be better to just share some photos and snippets of our week with you! I hope they put a smile on your face as they did for me when looking back over the week’s photos!

It really is interesting to look back over your week through photos…we so often miss or easily forget those small moments that went into making the fabric of one’s family life and rhythm during those 7 days! For me it helped to remind that there were happy moments amongst the stressful…as is so often the case in a family with young children!! Follow the journey with me….

There was more fun painting with our Recycled Bottle Paints and pallet blocks!

Purple beans to be picked…these are doing so well, we have a handful with dinner every night and still excess to freeze!

Time together bouncing on the trampoline…we had lots of fun picking oranges and rolling and bouncing them on the trampoline in the sun….it’s the little things that keep a toddler busy!

Just loving being outside in this wonderful Autumn weather we are having..long awaited after all the recent rain and mud!

More fun balancing outside on our pallet blocks! I am so loving pallets right now!

Many loads of nappies and covers washed and hung out…but I do so love seeing them drying in the sunshine!

Some good old fashioned fun with banging of bowls and spoons!

Both hands going produces an amazing amount of noise!!!Note the 3 spoons!!

I usually don’t try to dress them the same and just realised they are looking like twins today!

Our favourite activity of the week was some sensory play on our trusty tray with wholemeal flour which a mouse had kindly nibbled at during the night!

We started off with just the flour on the tray and some brushes and farm animals. The brushes were there as an invitation to play mainly for Ruby as i knew the feel of this activity would prove challenging for her and by holding the ends of the brushes she was able to engage in the play without feeling overwhelmed…..

She soon moved to dipping her fingers in to make patterns and reach for other objects half buried in the flour!

Tara absolutely loved drawing her fingers through the flour and making some patterns…

Ruby remained cautious at times but did love exploring the different brushes and the patterns they made….

By the end of the activity there were quite a few items on the tray as i let the girls wander and add what they liked to the flour. It was interesting to see what they brought over to the table. It did leave quite a few flour footprints all over the floorboards but flour is so easy to clean up it didn’t bother me and allowed the toddler twosome to fully explore and extend the activity which kept them busy for a lot longer!! It was a fun and easy activity for younger toddlers and was packed away to use again on another day so thrifty too!

We finished off the week with a trip to the local park….i feel a little mummy guilt over park visits because i don’t often do it on my own with the toddler twosome…i just find it so stressful running in opposite directions the whole time to be honest and they both like very different things at a park so you can guarantee they will be in different areas!!

But with Daddy home for the weekend and another beautiful day it seemed the perfect opportunity to discover some fun!

If only that worked….seriously!

This sums up the girls perfectly…one likes to swing on her tummy, the other sitting up and firmly strapped in!

And Ruby always, always has somewhere to wander and explore….it’s important work being a toddler!

There was even more to the week….but sometimes you just have to put the camera down and live in the moments. Thanks to all for your lovely comments and support this week, looks like we are getting back into our family rhythm now and hoping for a smooth week ahead!

Hope you had a lovely weekend all xx

Warm Wishes..

What a wonderful week! Your flour table looks like so much fun! We would have had footprints everywhere too.

That looks like a fun filled week! I love the weekly recap. I might have to start doing one myself. I also feel like I don’t get out to the park as often as I’d like. We always have such fun when we do go though. I love the last swinging pic of them. It’s a great shot and shows so much personality of everyone in it! Fabulous ๐Ÿ™‚

For the longest time I never took the twins to the park without another adult. So they didn’t go that often. I have LOVED having a swingset which we finally got when the little twins turned 2. I had to watch them carefully at first but it didn’t take long for me to be able to trust them and I love just getting to let them all go outside and not have to worry about them. I just keep the back door open and the house quiet so I can hear but otherwise can just let them go. But yes, toddler twinnies can be quite a challenge!

Like the sensory table too. I need to do something like that. I was going to once and then kind of forgot. Good reminder for me! Especially now that school is getting out and the kids need more to do.

I’m glad it’s not just me! We are lucky to have a huge outdoor area with swings etc so i figure they aren’t missing out!Sounds similar to your girls!I think it is all about adapting a little when you have twins!!

Sensory tables make mess but they really do keep them busy lol!

We have been getting out to the park, but only the one with a secure fence all the way around it in town! Now Ooffa is toddling and Strawberry is nearly toddling I don’t know if I am too keen on getting out and about any more. Have you found with your twins that you have periods of home grounding, usually when a new phase/stage hits? Interesting!
