Weekly Kid’s Co-Op…Colour Fun & Games!

by The Empowered Educator 14 Comments

It's time to have fun with the Weekly Kid's Co-Op again! The toddler twosome have become very interested in their colours over the last few months so i have been looking for lots of inspiration for some fun yet quite easy colour recognition activities!

Here are two of my favourites from last week…..

I loved these simple red activities from Twodaloo …..and such gorgeous pics of more twins happily playing…will definitely be trying these out!

Puddle Wonderful Learning shared an easy colour placemat activity and the post also includes a free printable…the toddler twosome are going to love this one!

We are sharing our favourite colour activity with the Kid's Co-Op this week …it has been a real hit here with the toddler twosome and they have enjoyed being able to approach it in their own ways….

Contact Colour Match Game
While the girls were having their nap (and i use that term loosely at the moment!!) i lay some coloured pieces of paper down on our low table and then cut some larger squares of sticky contact paper which i then used to stick the paper smoothly (well some were smooth i promise!) to the table……

I filled a basket with some little wooden cubes i had picked up from the bargain shop (in craft section). I actually dyed these simply using some edicol water paint …but i have also seen coloured ones in the shops!

I lay out a few pieces in an invitation to play ready for the toddler twosome when they woke up!

They were very excited…even more so because Daddy had the afternoon off and was there to join in the fun!

I was actually surprised at how quickly they began matching and they did very well. When a piece was the wrong colour we talked about what colour it was and where else it might go rather than saying it was the ‘wrong' colour.

They liked being able to move around the table and choose different colour ‘boards'…the purple ones stayed in the purple basket because Mummy ‘forgot' to do a purple square!

They soon began collecting favourite items and toys from around the room to add to the colour squares….it became quite the game to ask if they could ‘find me something else blue….red…etc'

I've left the contact squares on the table for a few weeks now as we have found lots of ways to play with them and i enjoy watching them begin to match things they are playing with all on their own!
I still can't believe my little babies are old enough to be recognising their colours though…where do the months go?

If you need even more inspiration why not have a look at the ideas pinned on the Kid's Co-Op Pinterest Board! Each week the Co-Hosts will be pinning their favourites to the board which has a large following and thus great exposure for your activity!

Thanks Kelly! I don’t believe we need to spend a lot or use fancy tools to support kids in their learning!

I thought I’d commented on this one too. Not sure what’s going on with my computer at the moment.

I love this isea. It’s such a wonderful, simple way of getting children to recognise colours. It’s come at a perfect time for the twins. They are really getting into colours at the moment!

This is incredible. I appreciate the work that has been put into programs like this and the accessibility of them to other educators and parents. Thank you and well done.
